my mother’s day was perfect.  breakfast, shopping, a delicious steak dinner w/ wine, and a foot rub.  i’m quite certain i don’t want anymore munchkins, but i don’t know… does the amount of kiddos i pop out have anything to do with how royally i’m treated on mother’s day?  i’ll ask my husband and get back to you on that one.

until then, i hope you enjoyed your mother’s day!  {or at least pampered your own mama with lots of love.}

mom’s visit // day four

day4aday4bday4cday4dday4eday4fday4g

{in recognition of mother’s day, i thought i’d share a few photos from the last day of my mom’s visit.}

we had lunch then drove up mulholland highway to snap a few photos.
i can never get enough of the santa monica mountains!

later that afternoon i took the ladies on a hike – something they really wanted to do while they were here.

their visit went by way too fast!  i miss her so much already!

happy mother’s day, mommy friends.

have a lovely day.

mom’s visit // days two & three

day3bday3aday3dday3cday3eday3f

day two:  was spent in ventura.  {i didn’t take any photos.}  we had a late lunch at a seafood restaurant on the pier, then walked to the end and watched the local fishermen pulling in little fish here and there – someone even caught a sting ray!  {they let it go.}  afterwards, we headed over to main street to peruse the shops and thrift stores.  i purchased a boy’s sized blazer and a vintage vase.  mark bought a few records for our record player.  it was an easy trip a few miles up the coast.  there’s just something about ventura… maybe it’s the laid back beach vibe or the locally owned cafes and antique stores…whatever it is, i’m always eager to take our out-of-town guests.  that and i love, love, love the thrift stores!

day three:  we had the best brunch at our favorite mexican restaurant – bottomless mismosas and tons of delicious eats!  after stuffing our faces, we played in the park and i snapped a few photos.  i love the similarity of the pics of me with my mom and then of zoey and me.  mark took some fun photos of taylor, too!  it was a cold and rainy day, so we ended up inside for most of the afternoon.

*another pinspired look!  and probably the last time i’ll wear tights until fall.  {photos taken thursday.}

loving :: gage huntley jewelry, duh!  amanda’s creations are fun and affordable.  great pieces to grow your collection.  she makes custom items as well!  also, don’t forget to enter the gage huntley giveaway!  it ends tomorrow.

reading ::  sullivan’s island by dorothea benton frank.  i finished a book while we were in big sur and the lodge had one of those “take a book, leave a book” deals, so i left mine and chose this one.  so far, i’m pleased!  a great beach read.

watching :: nothing really.  our usual lineup i suppose.  i’ve been more interested in reading, so television hasn’t been a priority.

thinking about :: going back to school.  {as if i have so much extra time.}  i may take a summer class at the local community college.  i’m looking forward to pumping my brain full of new information.  it feels a little stale these days.

anticipating :: a visit from my mom!  she’s flying in from IL on thursday.  i have a few fun things planned and cannot wait to spend time with her.  :)

listening to :: a lot of jazz!  so good for sitting outside after work, a glass of wine in hand.  hello summah!

working on :: home improvement ideas.  little things – more plants, a fresh coat of paint on furniture we already own, new curtains, some diy’s, etc…we’ve started making a list of summer projects!  i’m excited to get started.

wishing for :: another weekend away with my husband.

what are you up to?

happy sunday, friends.  have a good one!

{currently post inspired by kelly of our lovely lives.}

recent garage sale finds

find2find1

this rug - $20
we purchased the table you see above at the rose bowl flea market, several months ago.  up until this weekend, it was shoved against a wall, behind our couch.  mark has used it as a place to set his mug of beer or sunday newspaper, i use it to photograph things.  its main purpose, eventually, is to serve as our dining table.  as you can see, the bar stools we currently use are much too high.  they work, but are quite uncomfortable.  our next purchase - chairs!  this room still needs some work – curtains, maybe a bar cart in the corner.  slowly, it’s coming along.

beaded necklaces // marble ball on brass stand
i couldn’t resist the necklaces.  {they may end up in the shop.}  according to the lady who sold them to me, the larger piece is ancient – some actor made it for her grandmother or something like that.  she hesitated on the sale, but gave in.  it’s my treasure now!  and mark just had to have the marble ball.  it’s hanging out on our mantel.

handmade apron
cute, huh?  it needs a little tlc, but will probably end up in the shop.

clothing for zoey
the white dress was a no-brainer, what with its ruffles and colorful embroidered birdies.   i wasn’t sure about the kitty cat bib overalls, but zoey squealed in delight, exclaimed “kitty!” and embraced them like they were a long lost pal.  sold.

books // mini-me cleaning supplies
so i sat zoey down this weekend and said, “look princess, do you think cinderella stayed in the castle for free?  no.  it’s time to earn your keep.  furthermore, maybe you’ll think twice next time you want to throw your dinner on the floor.”
seriously though, how cute are these?!  also, the share book is from 1985 {rad} and the runaway bunny is one of my faves.

accent table // plant stand // wall decor
not sure where the accent table is going, but it only cost us $2!  the plant stand was an exciting find, as i’ve been searching high and low.  for now, it’s the perfect side table {holding mark’s beer and sunday paper}, but will eventually be used to display pretty plants and flowers.  as for the wall hanging – it may go in the shop.  haven’t decided yet.

not pictured:  a wooden crate, two vintage dresses, and a dictionary from the 1940′s.

it was a successful treasure hunting weekend!

if you follow me on instagram, you may recall that i mentioned the possibility of selling “vintage”…again.  i say vintage in parentheses because a lot of the stuff i gravitate towards on my thrift trips are from the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s and let’s be honest, 80′s/90′s isn’t really vintage.  according to etsy, though…it is.  and that works to my benefit.  {thank you, etsy.}

so as i stood in front of dusty bins and a rolling rack full of vintage wares, i put my collection into categories… items i want to keep, styles that will sell, and ewwhatwasithinkingthe first item i pulled from the sell pile was this grunge floral baby doll dress from guess, circa 1990-something?  i don’t know.  i considered keeping it, because i like the print, but it’s a bit too big.  my thought was to style it up, take photos, post on the blog and then list it in the shop… but… i like it.  i really like it.  i envision wearing it with black tights and a floppy hat, maybe even a vest.  also… i’m doing that dress over pants thing i was telling you about.  remember?  basically, i’m keeping it.  and this is one of the reasons i don’t end up selling!  i get attached or i have “plans” to wear something or i sell an item that i wish i hadn’t.  it’s the name of the game i suppose.  it’s also a very easy way to become a hoarder.
