on mother’s day.

my mother’s day was perfect.  breakfast, shopping, a delicious steak dinner w/ wine, and a foot rub.  i’m quite certain i don’t want anymore munchkins, but i don’t know… does the amount of kiddos i pop out have anything to do with how royally i’m treated on mother’s day?  i’ll ask my husband and get back to you on that one.

until then, i hope you enjoyed your mother’s day!  {or at least pampered your own mama with lots of love.}

recent garage sale finds

find2find1

this rug - $20
we purchased the table you see above at the rose bowl flea market, several months ago.  up until this weekend, it was shoved against a wall, behind our couch.  mark has used it as a place to set his mug of beer or sunday newspaper, i use it to photograph things.  its main purpose, eventually, is to serve as our dining table.  as you can see, the bar stools we currently use are much too high.  they work, but are quite uncomfortable.  our next purchase - chairs!  this room still needs some work – curtains, maybe a bar cart in the corner.  slowly, it’s coming along.

beaded necklaces // marble ball on brass stand
i couldn’t resist the necklaces.  {they may end up in the shop.}  according to the lady who sold them to me, the larger piece is ancient – some actor made it for her grandmother or something like that.  she hesitated on the sale, but gave in.  it’s my treasure now!  and mark just had to have the marble ball.  it’s hanging out on our mantel.

handmade apron
cute, huh?  it needs a little tlc, but will probably end up in the shop.

clothing for zoey
the white dress was a no-brainer, what with its ruffles and colorful embroidered birdies.   i wasn’t sure about the kitty cat bib overalls, but zoey squealed in delight, exclaimed “kitty!” and embraced them like they were a long lost pal.  sold.

find10finds9

books // mini-me cleaning supplies
so i sat zoey down this weekend and said, “look princess, do you think cinderella stayed in the castle for free?  no.  it’s time to earn your keep.  furthermore, maybe you’ll think twice next time you want to throw your dinner on the floor.”
seriously though, how cute are these?!  also, the share book is from 1985 {rad} and the runaway bunny is one of my faves.

accent table // plant stand // wall decor
not sure where the accent table is going, but it only cost us $2!  the plant stand was an exciting find, as i’ve been searching high and low.  for now, it’s the perfect side table {holding mark’s beer and sunday paper}, but will eventually be used to display pretty plants and flowers.  as for the wall hanging – it may go in the shop.  haven’t decided yet.

not pictured:  a wooden crate, two vintage dresses, and a dictionary from the 1940′s.

it was a successful treasure hunting weekend!

bf+v thrifts // goodwill

check out this haul!  bought, but not pictured – a teal + white chevron patterned knit blanket.  love.  i also came across a shit ton of babysitter’s club books, squealed with delight and threw about 30 in the cart.  but mark gave me a look, so i put them all back.  besides, i’m holding out for sweet valley high.  i’ll wrestle a betch for one or two of those.  and holy hell…ralph lauren wedges for $4.99?!  yes, please

i love a good thrift trip.

home is where the heart is.

folks, this is the last “paige visits christina” post…sad, huh?
but not that sad!  i will see her again, soon…and we’ll take more lovely photos, i’m sure.
the only thing i regret is that we didn’t take many candid photos of the two of us.  her dad snapped a few at the parade, but who knows if i’ll ever see them.  ah well!  next time.

christina took me to a parade on saturday am, that both her husband and son were participating in…it was so cute!  i haven’t been to a small town parade in ages.  i grew up in IL…in a pretty rural area.  i’m used to the small town feel of life and i must admit…i miss it.  like, really miss it.

lucky for me, i’m headed back to IL next month!  i’ll spend a week with my mom and grandparents, maybe try to meet up with a few friends from high school…i can’t wait!

my mom even said the cutest thing on the phone the other day…
“honey, i’m hoping we can go shopping at some of the thrift stores…you know, for your shop.  we can ship stuff back if we have to!”
how adorable and supportive is that?!
my answer was hell yes!  there are tons of old peeps in the area…the vintage should be plentiful.  fingers crossed.

i miss my mama.  i only get to see her once or twice a year…if that.  i miss my whole family, actually.  we were all really close when i was growing up.  everyone lives there except my dad and i.  (we’re in california, duh.)

needless to say, even though i’ll have to deal with humidity and bugs…home is home.  i always get this super excited, nervous feeling in my tummy.  even as i write this…i’m getting jazzed at the thought of going back.  yay!

how cool are these photos??  this old building was the perfect backdrop for a nostalgic, small town, “we just went to a parade” feel.  (go check out christina’s photos, too.  i took them of her!  she looks so purdy.)

after the parade, we did massive amounts of thrifting.  let me tell ya, that girl is sitting on a goldmine of stuff.  i was in shock at the items that were sitting there, ready to be plucked from the racks by girls like us…it was ridic!  and the deals…oh my, the deals.  one store offered 1/2 off everything in the store OR 15 items for $15.  i found some dope stuff at that one.  including an incredible pair of vintage anne klein II navy blue (very) high waist pants…i die.  so did christina.  they are freaking incredible.  just wait…i’ll show you one day soon.

as if it couldn’t get any better…
we stopped by a salvation army and found the best deals.  i got two pairs of boots for 75 cents each!!!!!  can you imagine??  they were originally $10.  (i scoffed at that.  man, i’m getting cheap.)

we squealed and high-fived in front of the whole store.  turns out all yellow tags were priced at 75 cents.  no matter what the item!

it was magical.

after that, we needed to eat.  she took me to a hole in the wall for mexican food.  delish!

i had so much fun!!  the small town feel, the connections that were made, the abundance of vintage, the mountains and blue skies…sigh.

(christina, don’t worry…i’ll call you before i show up at your house with my belongings, son, and WrW in tow.  we’ll be one big happy family!  wink wink)

what about you, friends?  are you a country bumpkin or a city slicker??

i’m country at heart.

ya’ll come back now…ya hear?

rewarding myself.

i used to be a shopaholic.  and not the thrifty type.  more like the “omg.  i have to have that blouse/shirt/skirt/jeans/shoes/face cream/diamond encrusted bra!  no matter what the price…i have to have it!” type.  $120 later, i was eating pickles and mac n cheese for bfast lunch and dinner, because going to the grocery store wasn’t an option.  but at least my ass looked great in those new sevens.

(okay, so i’m exaggerating about the bra and not having enough $$ for groceries.  you get the point.)

now that i’m older and wiser (read:  30 years old), other things are more important…like paying for cable (because spongebob squarepants and real housewives of any county on the planet are staples in our household), electricity, food, target runs for the essentials, school supplies, gas in the car, etc etc.  not to mention setting aside funds for nights out with the girls, concerts, movies, etc.

so where does that leave wardrobe shopping??  at the bottom.  actually, i lied.  i do a lot of shopping, but it’s for barefoot & vintage, and i’m not really shopping for my own wardrobe…i’m shopping for yours.  (aren’t i a good friend??)  so, even though i’m out there, thrifting it up, i rarely purchase items for myself.

what i’ve managed to do over the last year though, is buy some great staples…skinny jeans, leggings, cardigans, belts, t-shirts…things like that.  and since i’ve been following SO many great thrifty/style blogs (second skin, dirty hair halo, kendi everyday, leproust vintage, little ocean annieoff of broadway and kennedy holmes - just to name a few!) i’ve found it so much easier to “shop my closet” so to speak.  i’ve mixed and matched items that i haven’t worn in AGES.  it’s been fun and it rarely costs me a dime these days.  woot!

with that being said, i felt it was about time to reward myself.

but ONLY because barefoot & vintage has been doing really, really well and i kinda have a lot of you to thank for that!  so, would you like to see my recent purchases??

french navy top from modcloth

this adorable skirt from second skin style

vintage 1970s little girl lost necklace from dear golden vintage

i also purchased a pink lace cami and owl necklace from tulle.  once a month, tulle has an ah-mazing one day sale.  i got both of those items, plus shipping, for a whopping $14!!

so, while i didn’t splurge in a huge way, i still bought a few items that i’m in love with and plan to have in my closet for a long time.  plus!  all of them can be worn throughout the year.  yay me!

alright friends…it’s almost time to start the weekend.  happy mother’s day to all you mamacitas out there!  have a great one.

i want – wedges, sandals, clogs

work, shmirk!  there are a million other things i could be doing right now.  liiiiiiike…lounging on the couch, catching up on real housewives of nyc.  or shopping.  or going for a run.  or working on barefoot & vintage-related things.  see?  a million.

yay, it’s friday!  in less than 5 hours i will be off work.  i will go for a run and then i’m going to nordstrom to do some shopping!  i still have a gift card from my bday and i’m ready to spend it.  i’ve been doing research to find the perfect pair of cork/platform/wedge/clog-type sandal.  i want something comfy so i can wear it all summer long, for hours at a time - with dresses, skirts and shorts.  but they also have to look cute (duh).  here are the options i’m considering:

kork-ease ‘bette’ wedge sandal

franco sarto ‘focus’ wedge sandal

UGG® australia ‘oliana’ sandal

KORS michael kors ‘kingston’ sandal
**man, do i WISH.  unfortunately, my budget does not.

BP. ‘geneva’ platform sandal
**cute, but because they’re inexpensive…they may not be that comfortable.  not only that, but can you imagine me traipsing around LA on a hot summer day in these frankenstein shoes??  maybe.  if you want a good laugh.

 jeffrey campbell ‘splendid’ sandal
**wow wow WOW.  yes, please.

miz mooz ‘hazel’ sandal

okay, so out of those (minus the kors.  sad face), i should be able to find the perfect pair of summer sandals.  at this point, it’s obviously just a matter of fit and how they look in person.  and if i can walk in them.

which pair(s) do YOU like??

happy friday, btw!  have a great weekend!

hi friends!

i hope everyone had a great weekend…i sure did!  in fact, i’m dying to provide you with a weekend post, but the pics are on WrW’s camera and we’ve been too busy and live too far apart to make a quick exchange.  speaking of living too far apart…maybe not for long!!  we’ve actually been looking at places…which means we’re gearing up for a “move-in”!  he found a place that he’s so smitten with…it has wood floors, a big yard, white picket fence…i am not kidding, that’s for REALZ…2 bedroom/2 bath, nice kitchen, i think maybe a fireplace, etc… i’m excited!  hopefully i’ll get to see it tomorrow, as we’re heading to SF on friday morning.  yay!  it’s hands down one of my fave cities.  my son has to do a mission project this year and he chose the san francisco mission.  i’m sure we’ll visit a few museums and stroll around the city, as well.  it’ll be nice to get away.  (and no, i most definitely did NOT persuade him to choose that mission…)  wink wink

anyway, all this busy talk means that i won’t have much time for posts this week, but i’m here, keeping up with my faves and letting ya’ll know that i’ve updated the shop.

see ya!

**j flair goods offers beautiful japanese fabrics, adorable stamps, tape, stickers and MORE to etsy sellers and other creative peeps!  i recommend taking a gander…you won’t be disappointed.**

see the little girl in the corner??  she’s going on the new packaging that i’m working on for the shop!  i’m so excited to go buy all the supplies!

now for the sad news…because i wanted the stamps so badly, i was unable to purchase this darling dress from little ocean annie.  *sigh*  i had visions of tea parties and garden frolicking in this dress…but alas, right now i am on a budget and investing in my shop seemed more important than looking cute.  (please note – you will never hear me say that again.)

oh!  and please go visit her blog…also called little ocean annie.  i look forward to reading her posts, daily.  she’s adorable and funny and so down to earth.  enjoy!

UPDATE (3/1/10) - turns out i’m getting the dress!!  :)
