bf+v thrifts // alcv thrift shop

the assistance league of conejo valley is the new kid in town… good stuff, but a little pricey.  i wasn’t all that impressed with their selection of clothing, but {as you can see} i made a pretty good killing in the home goods department!

it’s rare that i find what i’m looking for when i’m actually looking for it…isn’t that true for most of us?  but yesterday, the thrifting gods smiled upon me and ta-da… woven rugs!  wall hangings for zoey’s room!  a vintage glass container for a future project!  and vintage baby dresses for the shop!

have you found any good gems lately?  do tell…

a pretty big deal

a year ago this weekend, mark and i attended the malibu arts festival – 1.  to enjoy the event itself, but 2.  because mark was in desperate need of a job and a friend of mine {who was working the event} knew of a sales position with the malibu chamber of commerce.  as we walked up and down the aisles, admiring the work of local artists and businesses, she explained the position to mark – he’d be in charge of ad space and membership sales, also acting as the executive director’s right hand man.  sounds good…we’ll take it!  in a matter of days, the job was his.

flash forward to this weekend…long story, short – the previous executive director was let go and mark is now “acting” executive director.  this year, the arts festival is his event.  my husband is the boss.  and i am so unbelievably proud of him.  he’s worked long hours, late nights and although we haven’t seen him much this weekend, the event appears to be a big success.

and there are perks to being the boss’s wife – like not paying the $10 parking fee….

yeah, i’m a pretty big deal.

zoey and i are headed back to IL tomorrow.  deep breath.  normally i’d be pumped, but this time i’m a little stressed and apprehensive.  i’m terrified that zoey will be the child from hell.  that she’ll do that back arching thing the entire flight.  that she won’t sleep.  that peekaboo forest just won’t cut it.  terrified.

SO.  today i need you.  i need your advice, thoughts + tips for travelling alone with a little baby.  for example, what’s the best seat for us – aisle or window?  got any good app suggestions?  pull out the big guns, ladies.

{our red hair and blue eyes can only get us so far…}

okay, GO!

ps.  pleeeeease enter ashley’s giveaway.  please.  it ends today.  thank you, kindly.

dress + bag - vintage, thrift // wedges - toms // belt - anthropologie // sunnies - old navy

i felt so “vintage” yesterday.  what with the sock bun and vintage-y dress.  truth be told, this isn’t like me – a dress and wedges on a saturday?  no plans, but to run errands?  no.  i’m pretty much a jeans and t-shirt gal.  so this was a stretch for me.  a good stretch though, as i’m trying to break away from my “go-to’s”.

just as i was feeling comfortable living outside my box, we ran into an old coworker and her husband.  i hadn’t seen her in a while, so we chatted about zoey, her kids, the weather, etc…she asked me about our move to IL and her husband says to me, “well it looks like you’re dressing the part.”

“dressing the part” ??  the only conclusion i came up with is that {some} people who don’t venture away from the west coast often, still think the midwest is stuck in some leave it to beaver time warp.

i suppose i should sharpen my cooking skills and learn to say “yes dear” like i mean it.

{like the diva that i am, i had a wardrobe change mid photo-taking.}

so here i am, blogging about sunday on tuesday.  sunday was nice – while mark spent the day at the golf course, zoey and i stayed indoors where it was cool.  we made a trip over to goodwill in an attempt to buy other people’s crap, but left empty-handed.  later that evening we had us some delicious bbq, followed by frozen yogurt.  i like these easy summer days…

yet here i sit…my nose running like a faucet, mouth-breathing like a mo fo.  being sick in july is stupid.

fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

ps.  have you entered the beep clothing giveaway?

check out this haul!  bought, but not pictured – a teal + white chevron patterned knit blanket.  love.  i also came across a shit ton of babysitter’s club books, squealed with delight and threw about 30 in the cart.  but mark gave me a look, so i put them all back.  besides, i’m holding out for sweet valley high.  i’ll wrestle a betch for one or two of those.  and holy hell…ralph lauren wedges for $4.99?!  yes, please

i love a good thrift trip.

topanga vintage market

we are totally on a flea market kick and i love it!  it’s proving to be a great way to spend a sunday morning/afternoon.  fresh air, treasure hunting, ice-cold lemonade, people watching… and although we may get a little sunburnt and our dogs are barkin’ after several hours of walking, we’ve left with some pretty dope finds.  {see the last two photos.}

are you planning to attend any flea markets this summer??

here are a few tips before heading out…

1.  in the summer months, it can get hot out there!  make sure you’re dressed for the weather.  light clothing and layers.

2.  don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, and your sunglasses!

3.  don’t dress too fancy…you don’t want to appear like you can afford a $20 vintage dress while you’re bargaining to only spend $12.  know what i mean?

4.  make sure you wear comfortable shoes!

5.  bring cash.  many venues offer an atm machine, but i’m sure the fee is ridiculous.

6.  take your own water and snacks.  typically, these events have food/beverage tents, but the prices are crazy.

7.  purchase a cart or take a backpack – for carrying your goodies!

8.  map out parking ahead of time – that shit can get bananas.

so yeah…that’s my two cents on flea market-ing.

have fun!

shop style // inspired by brittany of itty bitty bomb

on a recent thrift trip, i came across these rad pants and just couldn’t say no.  they are currently for sale in the shop!

tribal print cropped pants

 …and while i’m sure many of you are thinking, “um, the 90s called…they want their pants back.”  – these tribal print cropped pants couldn’t be more on trend.

in fact, check out the beautiful brittany of itty bitty bomb!  she paired a similar style with a baggy blouse and wedges.  so cute!

{see more photos here.  thanks, brittany!}

i’m hoping to make this a regular feature on the blog – where i’ll combine vintage pieces in my shop with styling ideas and inspiration.

stay tuned!
